What can we learn from more than a year of media coverage and what could we build to help campaigners make sense of it?

Campaign Lab is partnering with Stop Funding Hate for a hands-on hack day exploring a large media dataset. Together, we’ll investigate how AI tools, transcription and analysis can help us search this rich archive, explore patterns and uncover stories worth investigating.

WHAT IT COVERS
WHAT IT IS

About this one.

Written by Campaign Lab, not by us — this is their description, tidied up and nothing more.

We’ll bring together developers, designers, campaigners and researchers to explore what becomes possible when media coverage becomes easier to analyse. How do narratives develop over time? Which voices and issues receive attention? Could we build tools that help campaigners and journalists understand how stories are framed?

In the spirit of Campaign Lab, we’ll learn by doing: working across disciplines, testing ideas and building prototypes with practical campaigning uses. We’ll also think critically about what these tools can tell us, checking findings against the source material and being clear about their limits.

We’ll start with an introduction to the dataset before breaking into teams to explore questions and build together. Whether you’re interested in coding, data science, design, media or campaigning or simply have a question you’d like to investigate there’ll be opportunities to contribute. You don’t need prior experience with AI or media analysis.

Come and help turn a rich media archive into insight and tools that support public-interest campaigning.
