Google’s Gemini 5: A 10 Trillion Parameter Massive Upgrade!

From the creator

Gemini 5 rumors are exploding, but is Google actually preparing its next-generation AI model? A reported internal model called Carbon is fueling speculation, with one Google employee comparing its coding abilities to Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5. Meanwhile, Gemini 4 Argon is already delivering impressive benchmark results, a massive one-million-token context window, and powerful AI agent capabilities. But there's a problem: Google hasn't announced Gemini 5, and the available evidence tells a much more complicated story. Google's recent release pace has been remarkable. Gemini 3.6 Flash scored 49% on DeepSWE, followed by Gemini 3.7 Flash at 65.3%, Gemini 3.8 Flash at 74%, and Gemini 4 Argon at 77.9%. That's rapid progress, but the improvements are getting smaller. Is Google approaching diminishing returns, or preparing something fundamentally different? Gemini 4 Argon provides some important clues. Google's published benchmarks show Argon winning 13 out of 19 comparisons against models including GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5. It scores 51.3% on AutomationBench, 65.4% on Vals Finance Agent, and 91.7% on LVBench. However, independent testing paints a more balanced picture. Artificial Analysis gives Argon an Intelligence Index score of 53, tying GPT-6 Astra. And on Terminal-Bench 4.0, Argon scores just 57.4% compared with Claude Opus 5.5's 66.4%. That difference matters because real-world AI agents need more than strong reasoning benchmarks. They need to navigate complex environments, execute tools, debug software, and recover when things go wrong. Then there's the Carbon leak. According to Business Insider's reporting, Google employees have been testing internal checkpoints named Argon, Barium, and Carbon. One employee reportedly compared Carbon's coding performance to Claude Opus 5.5. But the report describes these as checkpoints within the Gemini 4 family, not confirmation of Gemini 5. So is Carbon an early Gemini 5 candidate, an improved Gemini 4 model, or something else entirely? Pricing adds another twist. Gemini 4 Argon's introductory API pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Starting December 1, those listed prices double to $4 and $20, matching Claude Opus 5.5's pricing while GPT-6.1 Sol remains at $2 and $10. Meanwhile, Gemini 3.8 Flash may represent Google's more interesting achievement. On the independent DeepSWE leaderboard, it reportedly matches GPT-6 Astra's 74% score at roughly half the cost per problem. We also examine Google's demonstrations of Argon debugging Android applications, working overnight on Chromium, building 3D environments, generating playable games from video, and creating GPU-powered interfaces. These demonstrations are impressive, but they depend heavily on specialized agent frameworks like Google's Antigravity. A powerful model isn't automatically an autonomous software engineer. And even a future Gemini 5 would still need to confront hallucinations, prompt injection, reasoning failures, limited long-term memory, and the difficulties of reliable multi-step autonomy. What would actually justify calling a model Gemini 5? A major improvement in terminal-based coding, genuine end-to-end agent autonomy, persistent memory, more unified multimodal intelligence, or a breakthrough in efficiency could matter far more than another benchmark increase. Google also has an advantage that extends beyond model performance: Android, Search, Chrome, YouTube, Workspace, and its custom AI infrastructure. The bigger question isn't simply when Gemini 5 will release. It's whether Google can turn its research and ecosystem into AI capabilities that OpenAI and Anthropic cannot easily replicate. We separate confirmed announcements from reported leaks, compare Gemini 4 Argon with its competitors, examine the December pricing change, and explain what a genuine next-generation Gemini model would have to prove. Makers residency 4th edition

Your idea can be anything. At our last workshops, people built plant-based nutrition businesses, a way to measure planetary resilience, crochet headwear and a way to connect lonely people living in the same building. An asset manager went on to raise an additional £25M on their fund within nine months. The fourth workshop is a full day at KOKO with Nick Sarafa, learning to build with Claude Code. Bring the thing you keep meaning to start. We’ll bring the pizza.
