OpenRouter State Of Models: Jev, Open-Weights, and Tokenomics

From the creator

There is NO AI bubble. OpenRouter just pushed 146 TRILLION tokens in a single week. One year ago? 4.5 trillion. Meanwhile Anthropic is targeting a $2 TRILLION IPO while losing almost $50 billion. If token usage keeps climbing, the bulls win. If it stalls, the house of cards starts falling, and OpenAI likely follows. 🚀 PHASE 3 AGENTIC ENGINEERING (EARLY SIGN UP) https://agenticengineer.com/ia3-pre-launch?y=8BD6w5wELRo 🎥 WATCH THESE NEXT • 10 Levels Of JEV: https://youtu.be/_U-O5lYhJ7Q • Model Stack Tier List: https://agenticengineer.com/model-stack • Self-Compact PI Agent: https://youtu.be/3b0U4_02bAE • FUSION Pi Agent: https://youtu.be/rqZHR-hRllI 🔗 RESOURCES • OpenRouter rankings: https://openrouter.ai/rankings • Pi Agent: https://pi.dev/ • Anthropic IPO News: https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/anthropic-targets-2-trillion-ipo-121612775.html 📈 In this video, indydevdan uses OpenRouter to break down the state of LLMs as we enter the final quarter of 2026. Five trends every engineer needs to understand so you can deploy the right intelligence at the right performance, speed, and cost trade-off. 🔥 TREND 1: TOKENS GO UP. Usage is nearly exponential, and that's the strongest argument against the AI bubble narrative. The entire Anthropic IPO bet depends on this chart continuing. But here's the uncomfortable question: is YOUR token spend going up because you're getting more useful work done, or because you're burning tokens to feel productive? More tokens does not equal more value. That's tokenomics. Generating code is the easiest part of software engineering. The hard part is everything else. 🏆 TREND 2: WHO'S WINNING THE AI RACE? DeepSeek, OpenAI, and Google have held the top three OpenRouter market share spots almost all year. Anyone saying Google fell out of the race isn't paying attention: Gemini 3.8 Flash is the default model in my Pi agent. But don't trust the market share chart blindly. Napkin math on Anthropic's rumored $60B run rate says that even if you cut the estimate in half, Anthropic is processing roughly 1.5x OpenRouter's ENTIRE weekly volume through direct traffic. The truth? Everyone is winning. Cost down, intelligence up. 🧠 TREND 3: JEV SYSTEM ONE. What's old is new again. Jev by TypeSafe brings zero-shot classifier models back, and it's already 12th on OpenRouter despite using a fraction of the tokens agents burn. OpenRouter even added a new decisions category for it. Think a Jev open source clone or a fine-tuned scikit-learn model replaces it? Not across dozens of use cases, and not with Jev's uptime. I'm embedding Jev into my Pi agent right now and saving about 20% token spend. Combine compute, don't select compute. 🆓 TREND 4: "FREE TOKENS." Stealth models like SpaceBunny Alpha (rumored to be the next Minimax) rocket up the rankings because they cost nothing. But if it's free, you're the product. The real signal: the cheaper effective models get, the more tokens get spent. And remember who's in the OpenRouter data: price-sensitive users, not the enterprises paying top dollar for Claude and OpenAI. 🥧 TREND 5: PI AGENT AND HARNESS CONTROL. On OpenRouter's top apps, the Pi agent is steadily closing the gap on Claude Code, while Codex trails behind. My prediction: Pi passes Claude Code in OpenRouter usage. Engineers are realizing you must own your agent harness. We already rent our intelligence. Don't rent your harness too. 💡 The pie is growing. There is no single winner. Not OpenAI vs Anthropic. Not closed weights vs open weights. The engineers who win understand the intelligence available to them and scale their compute to scale their impact. Throw state-of-the-art models at the problem first, then scale down to cheaper, faster models once the work repeats. That's agentic engineering. Stay focused and keep building. 📖 Chapters 00:00 OpenRouter State Of LLMs 00:40 Trend #1: Tokens Go Up 05:06 Trend #2: Who's Winning The AI Race? 10:27 Trend #3: An Old New Model Class: Jev System One 15:22 Trend #4: "Free Tokens" 19:15 Trend #5: Top Apps: Pi Agent And Harness Control #agenticengineering #openrouter #agenticcoding

AI Maker Residence at KOKO

The third AI workshop taught by our legendary teacher, Nick Sarafa. In one of the last events we did an asset manager raised an additional £25M on their fund within a space of 9 months. This is a full-day hands-on training workshop for purposeful co-creation with AI using Claude Code. Imagine having access to hundreds of billions of dollars of computing power and knowing exactly how to make it work for you through the power of super intelligence. One person did.
