Gemini 4 Carbon VS Opus 5.5 VS GPT-6 Astra (No Hype)
Gemini 4 Carbon was announced today and went straight to #1 on Artificial Analysis: Carbon 59, Claude Opus 5.5 58, GPT-6 Astra 57. That's a 1 point lead. None of these are my own tests or Google's numbers: everything comes from independent leaderboards (sources below). 📊 The tests (checked Oct 28, 2026) 1. Overall, Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0: Carbon 59, Opus 5.5 58, Astra 57. Basically a 3-way tie. 2. Coding, AA Coding Agent Index (each model inside a real coding tool): Opus 5.5 in Claude Code 62, Carbon in Antigravity CLI 59, Astra in Codex 55. WebDev Arena (people vote on sites and apps without knowing which model built them): Opus #1, Astra #2, Carbon #4. 3. Side by side, a 3D helicopter from the same prompt (LuminaBench, early Carbon): Carbon took a bit over 30 min, Opus 55. They preferred Carbon's design but called Opus more polished overall. Not the same setup: Opus ran in Claude Code, Carbon on Arena. 4. Agents, Agent Arena: Opus #1, Carbon #2, Astra #4. A typical task: Opus about $6.70 and 19 min, Carbon about $1.80 and 12 min (at Google's 50% launch price), Astra about $5.10 and 11 min. 5. Chatting, Text Arena (blind votes): Carbon #1, Opus #3, Astra #37. 6. Opus 5.5: coding and agents. Astra: no category win, but the cheapest per task at full price, and #2 on WebDev Arena and Vending-Bench. 🔓 Who can use them today Opus 5.5: Claude's paid plans. GPT-6 Astra: ChatGPT's paid plans (Pro first, then Plus and Business, per OpenAI). Gemini 4 Carbon: only a small group of cyber defenders (Google's Fairwind Program). Everyone else "as soon as possible", no date. 💬 My take Carbon looks like the real deal compared to Argon. If you do research, writing or business stuff, I'd try it the day it opens, because making stuff up way less really matters. For coding, editing my videos and building the skills I share, I'm sticking with Claude. And launch day posts are always hype, so let's see what people say in a few weeks. ✏️ Corrections • Gemini 4 Argon came out Sep 30, about 4 weeks before this video, not 2. It's still 8 points behind Opus 5.5 on the AA index (50 vs 58).
