These Free AI Tools Turn Your PC Into A Local Coding Powerhouse

From the creator

Run local AI coding agents on your PC with free tools, Ollama, Cline, Twinny, Serena, and Playwright MCP, for offline autocomplete, bug fixes, testing, and browser checks. These five free tools can run a complete coding agent loop on your own hardware, from autocomplete to test checks, with no API bill. Ollama serves the models on your machine. Twinny adds inline completion with no telemetry, using a base model under a gigabyte. Cline is the agent: it explores your repository, plans a fix and asks for your approval before each file edit and terminal command, unless you switch on auto-approve. Serena connects language servers so the agent can look up every caller of a function. Microsoft's Playwright MCP lets the model open a browser and read the page as structured text. The catch is memory. A thirty-billion-parameter coding model is a nineteen-gigabyte download, and Ollama defaults to a four-thousand-token context window on GPUs with under twenty-four gigabytes, far below what the documentation suggests for coding tools. On a modest machine, autocomplete comes first and the full agent loop later. The running example is an illustrative bug in a sample shop, where a max price of zero shows every item. The Stack did not run these tools for this video: the code, test output and agent steps on screen are illustrative, the documentation lines are the projects' own, and the app screens are rebuilt from their real screenshots. The video covers the engine settings that decide what your hardware can run, follows each tool through the same bug, and ends with which pieces belong on your workstation and when a paid cloud agent is still worth keeping. Each video takes one tool, model, or workflow and shows how it works in a few focused minutes, with the real benchmarks and real costs. We go deep on Claude Code and Cursor for AI coding, AI agents and MCP servers, the open-source AI tools and GitHub repos most people miss, RAG and vector search, fine-tuning, and running local LLMs on your own machine with Ollama and LM Studio. We compare models like ChatGPT and Claude, test AI automation with Zapier, Make, and n8n, and flag the tools that actually ship. Makers residency 4th edition

Your idea can be anything. At our last workshops, people built plant-based nutrition businesses, a way to measure planetary resilience, crochet headwear and a way to connect lonely people living in the same building. An asset manager went on to raise an additional £25M on their fund within nine months. The fourth workshop is a full day at KOKO with Nick Sarafa, learning to build with Claude Code. Bring the thing you keep meaning to start. We’ll bring the pizza.
